WHO WAS MAHA HAKIM
Maha Hakim was a wife, sister, mother of three, social activist, Sunday School director, and most importantly a friend to all. Anyone who knew Maha knew that she spread love and encouragement everywhere and impacted the lives of countless young adults and children. Involved in many projects, she devoted her life to serving the Middle Eastern-American community and strived to outreach to those in need no matter their circumstances or her own. The surge of her ministry began in the early 2000’s when she started an annual children’s summer camp for children ages 7-17. What started as only seventy children and counselors gathering at a hotel in 2003, became hundreds of new children and student leaders attending throughout the years. Maha managed and funded these retreats for fifteen years alongside her ministry partner and dear friend Ann Abrahem. Together, they raised up a dedicated and strong generation of leaders to take charge of the Kids Retreat ministry despite Maha’s passing in 2018.
Maha had a consistently fervent and growing passion for empowering children and youth by being a role model, mentor, constant helping hand, and was even considered a second mother to many. Maha challenged everyone she came across to love others, take ownership of their purpose, and to “stand in the gap." There are countless testimonies of those she impacted and served, and she will never be forgotten by those whose lives she touched.
